What is Oral Appliance Therapy?

Oral Appliance Therapy (sometimes referred to as Dental Appliance Therapy) is the use of an appliance worn in the mouth, similar to a sports mouth guard or retainer, at night while sleeping. The dental appliance is custom fit to your mouth and is adjusted by your dentist so that it positions your lower jaw (called the mandible) in a way that keeps your tongue out of your airway at night while you sleep. The appliance allows you to breathe more easily while you sleep which leads to a better night’s sleep and you feeling more refreshed in the morning.

Three easy steps to get your Oral Appliance Therapy

Get screened by one of our SleepArchitects Certified Providers.  If you don’t know where to go but suspect you may be suffering from a sleep disorder, follow this link to complete our online Sleep Disorder Assessment.  We will contact you with the next steps.

During your sleep screening, the provider may order a sleep test.  Follow the instructions of your provider and complete your sleep test promptly!  Remember, if you have medical insurance, you may use your benefits to cover your sleep testing.  Getting properly diagnosed is very important to help you treat any possible sleep-related breathing disorder.

Make sure you review your sleep test results with your SleepArchitects Certified Provider.  They will also offer you a customized Oral Appliance Therapy plan to treat your obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and snoring.
