Some Tips For You

Tip #1

Make sure you take the time to watch the video above before starting your test.

Tip #2

Do not be afraid of the testing device. While these devices may appear cumbersome, think of them as if you are wearing a simple band around your chest. Note this device is more comfortable than having to sleep at an overnight lab where you would be wearing over 20 probes on your body to monitor your sleep.

Tip #3

Ensure the belt is secure and snug – but not tight or this will reduce signal quality and comfort – around your chest by adjusting the velcro tab (you can detach it and adjust accordingly). For women, the belt should be worn above the breast.

Tip #4

Ensure the nasal cannula is adjusted to fit comfortably and tight enough so it does not fall during your sleep time. It is advisable that you tape each side next to your cheeks to secure the cannula. This is strongly recommended if you generally move around a lot during sleep. If the nasal cannula falls off, the unit will wake you up by informing you to replace the nasal cannula.

Tip #5

If you wake up during the night to use the restroom, do not remove the device. ApneaLink Air records respiratory nasal airflow, snoring, blood oxygen saturation, pulse, and respiratory efforts during sleep. There is no need to stop and restart the device so that it knows when you fall back asleep.

You can remove the oximeter finger sensor if you need to wash your hands.  Place the oximeter finger sensor on again before going back to sleep.

Tip #6

On your sleep study nights, do not change your normal habits (sip wine or take medications before you sleep). We want to record you in your most natural setting and behavioral pattern.
